Mamma Coal has a “Dance Hall Crush” in new single

Americana meets country artist Mamma Coal has shared the title track from her sophomore album. Called “Dance Hall Crush”, the music is a dedication to all those wildly fun honky-tonks and a letter to the one she lusts over.

With “Dance Hall Crush”, Mamma Coal writes a track all about irresistible lust and desire in a romantic entanglement. Even though she recognizes the lust is not love and the relationship is not meant for longterm, she can’t help herself with her infatuation. Lyrics including, “I’ve got a dance hall crush / You don’t know just how much / I’ve been dying to take a taste of you / I’m trying to give it up / But every time that we touch / I go spinning right back into you,” show just how consumed she is by her crush. Musically, “Dance Hall Crush” is an ear pleasing roots anthem filled with Mamma Coal’s honeyed vocals singing cathartic melodic hooks. Soaring fiddle, lush acoustic guitars and warm layered harmonies are also standouts in this truly enjoyable listen.

Mamma Coal is the musical project of Carra Stasney. The songwriter is heavily influenced by Rainey Wilson with whom she opened for recently. Mamma Coal’s new album is self produced and contemplates important themes such as keeping a marriage alive, how to navigate mental health issues and when to let go and just enjoy the simple pleasures in life. With an uncanny musical expression and knack for storytelling, Mamma Coal is an artist to watch in the roots music scene.
